Peddars Way • Self-Guided Complete Journey

This complete self-guided journey follows the full length of the Peddars Way from Knettishall Heath to Holme-next-the-Sea. Beginning in the Breckland landscapes of Suffolk and ending on the Norfolk coast, the route passes through woodland, heathland, open countryside, and historic villages including Great Cressingham, Castle Acre, Great Massingham, and Ringstead.

With an arrival night included before the walk begins, carefully selected accommodation along the route, a printed journey guide, route maps, and digital navigation, this journey provides a comfortable and rewarding way to experience one of England's quietest long-distance trails.

Arrival Day — Thetford to Grange Farm

Transfer Distance: Approximately 3 miles / 5 km

Arrive in Thetford by train and make your way to Grange Farm, Euston. Located approximately 3 miles from Thetford Station, Grange Farm can be reached by a short taxi journey. Settle into the Breckland landscape, enjoy a relaxed evening, and prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 1 — Knettishall Heath to Great Cressingham

Walking Distance: 16 miles / 26 km

Transfer Distance: Approximately 3 miles / 5 km

After breakfast, transfer to Knettishall Heath, the start of the Peddars Way. Follow the ancient Roman road north through Breckland heathland, woodland, and open countryside before arriving in Great Cressingham.

Overnight: The Olde Windmill Inn

Day 2 — Great Cressingham to Castle Acre

Walking Distance: 10 miles / 16 km

Continue north through rural Norfolk towards Castle Acre, one of the most historic settlements on the route. Explore the village, priory ruins, and castle earthworks before settling in for the evening.

Overnight: The Ostrich

Day 3 — Castle Acre to Great Massingham

Walking Distance: 5 miles / 8 km

A shorter walking day allows time to enjoy Castle Acre before setting out across quiet countryside towards Great Massingham. Arrive with time to explore the village green, church, and surrounding landscape.

Overnight: The Dabbling Duck

Day 4 — Great Massingham to Ringstead

Walking Distance: 13 miles / 21 km

Continue through the rolling countryside of north Norfolk, passing villages and farmland as the route gradually approaches the coast. Finish the day in Ringstead, a traditional Norfolk village close to the final section of the trail.

Overnight: The Gin Trap Inn

Day 5 — Ringstead to Holme-next-the-Sea and Departure

Walking Distance: 2 miles / 3 km

Complete the final stretch of the Peddars Way to Holme-next-the-Sea, where the route reaches the Norfolk coast and joins the Norfolk Coast Path. Take time to enjoy the dunes, beach, and wide coastal views before beginning your journey home.
