Great Massingham, Norfolk – A Village Just off the Peddars Way
Poppy Fields, Flint Cottages, and The Dabbling Duck
Great Massingham is a welcoming village in West Norfolk, set just east of the Peddars Way, around a mile from the trail. Surrounded by quiet lanes and gently rolling countryside, it sits between inland Breckland landscapes and the routes that lead north toward the coast.
Centred on a broad village green, the village is edged with flint-built cottages and traditional buildings gathered in a clear, settled layout. It is easy to navigate on foot, with streets and paths leading naturally out into surrounding farmland and neighbouring villages.
The Peddars Way runs close to Great Massingham, with footpaths and quiet lanes providing access from the village. The village has a shop for everyday supplies and a thriving pub that also operates as an inn, making it a practical place to visit or stay while walking this part of inland Norfolk.
Being slightly inland, Great Massingham has a different feel from the coastal settlements further north along the route. Walking here tends to follow lanes, field edges, and local paths, offering a gradual transition through the landscape before the trail reaches the coast.
