The Dabbling Duck sits beside the village green in Great Massingham, surrounded by the countryside of West Norfolk. With rooms alongside its village pub and restaurant, it provides a well-placed base for a walking break, exploring the village and heading out into the surrounding network of footpaths and quiet country lanes.

Great Massingham is characterised by flint cottages, greens, ponds and rural lanes, with open countryside extending beyond the village. Local footpaths make it possible to explore directly from the village, whether for shorter walks during a relaxed stay or as part of a longer day exploring this part of Norfolk on foot.

To the south, Castle Acre and the Nar Valley add further walking and places to explore. Castle Acre combines a historic village with the remains of its castle and priory, while the surrounding countryside opens up a wider landscape of farmland, river valleys and small West Norfolk villages.

The Peddars Way passes around a mile west of Great Massingham on its journey between Castle Acre and Ringstead. This also makes The Dabbling Duck a useful overnight stay for long-distance walkers, while its position away from the trail itself allows the village to work equally well as a base for a longer countryside stay.
