Getting to the Peddars Way: Arrival at Thetford and Grange Farm
The Peddars Way begins at Knettishall Heath on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, but for walkers joining the Peddars Way Complete Journey, the experience starts the evening before with an overnight stay at Grange Farm near Thetford.
Arriving the day before allows time to settle in, prepare for the walk ahead, and begin the journey at a relaxed pace.
Arriving by Train
The easiest way to reach the start of the journey is by rail.
Thetford Station sits on the Breckland Line, with direct services connecting Norwich, Cambridge, Ely, and Peterborough. Connections from London are available via Cambridge or Ely.
Most travellers can reach Thetford comfortably by train from London, the Midlands, East Anglia, and other parts of the UK.
From Thetford to Grange Farm
Grange Farm is located near Euston, a short distance from Thetford.
A taxi from Thetford Station provides the most straightforward transfer and allows walkers to arrive directly at their accommodation without the need for additional navigation or public transport.
The journey takes approximately 15 minutes.
Your First Evening
After arriving at Grange Farm, there is time to relax and prepare for the days ahead.
The following morning, a transfer is provided to Knettishall Heath, where the Peddars Way begins.
Starting the walk after an overnight stay allows walkers to enjoy the route from the outset without the pressure of arranging transport and beginning a long-distance walk on the same day.
Why Stay the Night Before?
Including an arrival night is one of the features that makes the Peddars Way Complete Journey unique.
Rather than rushing to the trailhead after a long journey, walkers can settle into the Breckland landscape, organise their equipment, and begin the route refreshed and ready for the days ahead.
