A walking break in rural Norfolk

Great Massingham makes a peaceful base for a couple of days exploring the Norfolk countryside. Stay for two nights and spend your time discovering village lanes, footpaths, historic landscapes and some of the places that sit close to the Peddars Way.

The village itself is surrounded by open farmland, woodland and quiet country roads, making it easy to explore locally on foot before travelling a little further afield.

Explore Great Massingham

Spend time exploring Great Massingham and the surrounding countryside, following local footpaths through the gently rolling landscape of west Norfolk.

The village has two large ponds at its centre and makes a good starting point for shorter walks through the surrounding fields, woods and neighbouring villages.

Visit Castle Acre

A short journey away, Castle Acre is one of the most interesting historic villages in Norfolk and sits directly on the Peddars Way.

Explore the village, walk part of the trail and visit the remains of Castle Acre Priory and Castle Acre Castle. The surrounding countryside also offers plenty of opportunities to extend the day with a longer walk.

Discover more of Norfolk

With your own transport, Great Massingham also works well as a base for exploring further across Norfolk. From here you can combine countryside walks with historic villages, nature reserves and sections of the Peddars Way, returning to Great Massingham at the end of the day.
