Walk the full length of the Suffolk Coast Path on this complete self-guided journey from Felixstowe to Lowestoft. Following one of England's quietest coastlines, the route passes through estuaries, shingle beaches, heathland, nature reserves, and historic coastal towns before finishing in Britain’s most easterly town.

Beginning in Felixstowe, the journey follows Suffolk's changing shoreline through Orford, Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Walberswick, Southwold, and Wrentham before finishing in Lowestoft. Along the way, it explores tidal estuaries, open heathland, protected nature reserves, and some of England's most distinctive coastal landscapes.

Journey Itinerary

Arrival Day — Arrive in Felixstowe

Arrive in Felixstowe and settle into your accommodation before the journey begins. Spend the evening exploring the seafront, gardens, or historic Landguard Point before preparing for the days ahead.

Stay: Felixstowe

Day 1 — Felixstowe to Orford

Walking Distance: Approximately 15–18 miles / 24–29 km

Leave Felixstowe and follow the coast to Felixstowe Ferry before crossing the River Deben on the seasonal Bawdsey Foot Ferry (subject to operating times). Continue through Bawdsey and the quiet coastal landscapes of Shingle Street before arriving in the historic riverside village of Orford, home to one of England's best-preserved medieval castles.

Day 2 — Orford to Aldeburgh

Walking Distance: Approximately 12 miles / 19 km

Continue beside the landscapes of Orford Ness before following quiet coastal paths and estuary landscapes towards Aldeburgh, a traditional seaside town known for its fishing heritage, shingle beach, and colourful waterfront.

Stay: Aldeburgh

Day 3 — Aldeburgh to Southwold

Walking Distance: Approximately 16 miles / 26 km

Continue through Thorpeness, Sizewell, Minsmere, and Dunwich, passing some of Suffolk's most important coastal habitats before arriving in the colourful seaside town of Southwold.

Stay: Southwold

Day 4 — Southwold to Wrentham

Walking Distance: Approximately 8 miles / 13 km

Leave Southwold via Walberswick before continuing through peaceful coastal landscapes and making the short inland walk to Wrentham. A shorter day allows time to enjoy Southwold before continuing north.

Stay: Wrentham

Day 5 — Wrentham to Lowestoft

Walking Distance: Approximately 9 miles / 14 km

Complete the final stage through Benacre, Covehithe, Kessingland, and Pakefield before reaching Lowestoft, Britain's most easterly town and the official end of the Suffolk Coast Path. Take time to celebrate completing the journey before beginning your onward travels.
