Holme Dunes Nature Reserve

Dunes, Saltmarsh, and Coastal Landscapes at the End of the Peddars Way

Holme Dunes Nature Reserve is one of the most important coastal wildlife sites within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape. Located between Holme-next-the-Sea and Thornham, the reserve combines sand dunes, grazing marsh, freshwater pools, reedbeds, and saltmarsh within a landscape shaped by wildlife, tides, and the changing coastline.

The reserve sits close to the meeting point of the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path, linking two of Norfolk's most significant long-distance routes with a diverse network of coastal habitats. Throughout the year, migratory birds, waders, wildfowl, and other wildlife use the reserve, making it an important part of the wider coastal ecosystem.

Together, the reserve's dunes, saltmarsh, wetlands, and open coastal habitats create one of the most distinctive landscapes along the Norfolk Coast Path, where wildlife, wide skies, and the ever-changing shoreline shape the character of the area.
