Walk the complete Norfolk Coast Path

The Norfolk Coast Path runs for 84 miles / 135 km from Old Hunstanton to Hopton-on-Sea, following the changing coastline of north and east Norfolk.

Beginning on the cliffs at Old Hunstanton, the route follows the Norfolk Coast National Landscape through beaches, dunes, saltmarshes and nature reserves, connecting coastal places including Brancaster Staithe and Burnham Deepdale, Wells-next-the-Sea, Cley-next-the-Sea, Sheringham, Mundesley, Happisburgh, Winterton-on-Sea and Great Yarmouth before reaching Hopton-on-Sea.

This self-guided journey divides the complete trail into eight walking days, with an arrival night in Hunstanton and suggested overnight stops along the route. Use the itinerary, route information and connected guides to plan the journey independently and adapt it to your own pace.

Eight days on the Norfolk Coast Path

A suggested eight-day itinerary for walking the complete Norfolk Coast Path from Old Hunstanton to Hopton-on-Sea, with overnight stops along the route.

Arrival · Hunstanton

Arrive in Hunstanton and spend some time exploring the seafront, the striped cliffs or nearby Old Hunstanton. Staying locally provides a convenient starting point for walking the Norfolk Coast Path the following morning.

Day 1 · Old Hunstanton to Brancaster

Walking distance: 7 miles / 11 km

Begin the Norfolk Coast Path at Old Hunstanton before following the coast through Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve and the wide coastal landscapes bordering The Wash. Pass Holme-next-the-Sea, where the Peddars Way meets the Norfolk Coast Path, before continuing to Brancaster.

Day 2 · Brancaster to Wells-next-the-Sea

Walking distance: 12 miles / 19 km

Continue east through expansive saltmarshes, Holkham National Nature Reserve and Holkham Beach before arriving in the harbour town of Wells-next-the-Sea.

Day 3 · Wells-next-the-Sea to Cley-next-the-Sea

Walking distance: 12 miles / 19 km

Follow the coast through Stiffkey, Morston and Blakeney before reaching Cley-next-the-Sea, known for its windmill, marshes and birdlife.

Suggested overnight: Cley-next-the-Sea

Day 4 · Cley-next-the-Sea to Sheringham

Walking distance: 8 miles / 13 km

Continue along the coast through Weybourne before reaching Sheringham, where the character of the route changes from saltmarsh and open coast to a traditional seaside setting.

Day 5 · Sheringham to Mundesley

Walking distance: 12 miles / 19 km

Continue through Cromer before following the cliff-top coastline towards Mundesley, with extensive views across the North Sea along much of the route.

Day 6 · Mundesley to Happisburgh

Walking distance: 7 miles / 11 km

A shorter day follows Norfolk's quieter eastern coastline to Happisburgh, with its distinctive lighthouse and rapidly changing coastal landscape.

Day 7 · Happisburgh to Winterton-on-Sea

Walking distance: 12.5 miles / 20 km

Continue south through Sea Palling and along wide sandy beaches before reaching the dunes and protected coastal landscapes surrounding Winterton-on-Sea.

Day 8 · Winterton-on-Sea to Hopton-on-Sea

Walking distance: 13.5 miles / 22 km

Follow the coast through Great Yarmouth before continuing south to Hopton-on-Sea, the end of the Norfolk Coast Path. From Hopton, return to Great Yarmouth for rail connections or an additional overnight stay.
