Exploring England
Walk the coast, spend a few days exploring the countryside from a village inn, or follow a long-distance path through some of England's best-known landscapes.
Along the coast, walking ranges from the beaches, saltmarshes and villages of Norfolk and Suffolk to the chalk cliffs of Sussex and Kent and the longer stretches of the South West Coast Path through Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Inland, the Cotswolds, South Downs and North Downs combine countryside walking with villages, market towns and places to stay.
Further north, the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Pennines offer longer days through upland landscapes, while Northumberland combines open countryside, historic places and the coast.
For a longer journey, routes including the Coast to Coast Path, Pennine Way, Cleveland Way, Hadrian's Wall Path and South West Coast Path can be followed over several days. For a shorter break, choose one place to stay and explore the surrounding countryside, coast, villages and local paths on foot.
