Walk the complete Suffolk Coast Path

The Suffolk Coast Path runs for approximately 60 miles / 96 km from Felixstowe to Lowestoft, following the Suffolk coastline through estuaries, shingle beaches, heathland and nature reserves.

Beginning in Felixstowe, the route continues north through Orford, Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Walberswick and Southwold before reaching Lowestoft, Britain's most easterly town. Along the way, the trail crosses tidal estuaries and passes through some of Suffolk's most distinctive coastal landscapes.

This self-guided journey divides the complete trail into five walking days, with an arrival night in Felixstowe and suggested overnight stops along the route. Use the itinerary, route information and connected guides to plan the journey independently and adapt it to your own pace.

ITINERARY

Five days on the Suffolk Coast Path

A suggested five-day itinerary for walking the complete Suffolk Coast Path from Felixstowe to Lowestoft, with overnight stops along the route.

Arrival · Felixstowe

Arrive in Felixstowe and spend some time exploring the seafront, gardens or historic Landguard Point. Staying locally provides a convenient starting point for walking the Suffolk Coast Path the following morning.

Day 1 · Felixstowe to Orford

Walking distance: approximately 15–18 miles / 24–29 km

Leave Felixstowe and follow the coast to Felixstowe Ferry before crossing the River Deben on the seasonal Bawdsey Foot Ferry, subject to operating times. Continue through Bawdsey and the quiet coastal landscapes of Shingle Street before arriving in the historic riverside village of Orford.

Suggested overnight: Orford

Day 2 · Orford to Aldeburgh

Walking distance: approximately 12 miles / 19 km

Continue beside the landscapes of Orford Ness before following quiet coastal paths and estuary landscapes towards Aldeburgh, a traditional seaside town known for its fishing heritage, shingle beach and waterfront.

Suggested overnight: Aldeburgh

Day 3 · Aldeburgh to Southwold

Walking distance: approximately 16 miles / 26 km

Continue through Thorpeness, Sizewell, Minsmere and Dunwich, passing some of Suffolk's most important coastal habitats before arriving in the seaside town of Southwold.

Suggested overnight: Southwold

Day 4 · Southwold to Wrentham

Walking distance: approximately 8 miles / 13 km

Leave Southwold via Walberswick before continuing through quiet coastal landscapes and making the short inland walk to Wrentham. The shorter distance leaves time to explore Southwold or Walberswick before continuing north.

Day 5 · Wrentham to Lowestoft

Walking distance: approximately 9 miles / 14 km

Follow the final section through Benacre, Covehithe, Kessingland and Pakefield before reaching Lowestoft, Britain's most easterly town and the end of the Suffolk Coast Path. Lowestoft provides rail connections for onward travel or the option of an additional overnight stay.
