Walberswick, Suffolk – Dunes and Marshland on the Suffolk Coast Path
Sand dunes, saltmarsh, and open heath beside the River Blyth
Walberswick sits on the Suffolk coast at the mouth of the River Blyth, directly on the Suffolk Coast Path within the Suffolk Coast & Heaths National Landscape. The route passes through the village before continuing south toward Dunwich or north across the estuary toward Southwold.
The settlement lies behind a broad sandy beach backed by dunes, marsh, and low heathland. Walking here is largely level, with sandy paths through the dunes, compacted tracks across marsh and grassland, and short paved sections near the village. The landscape feels open and quiet, with wide views across the Blyth estuary and along the coast.
Walberswick has a small number of cafés, pubs, and places to stay, with additional services available nearby in Southwold. The village functions as a quieter stopping point along this stretch of the route.
From the centre, the Suffolk Coast Path heads south across heath and marsh toward Dunwich and Minsmere, or north toward the River Blyth crossing and Southwold, following sea walls, dunes, and riverside paths.
