Lowestoft, Suffolk – Seaside Town at the End of the Suffolk Coast Path

Sandy beaches, wide promenades, and open North Sea shoreline

Lowestoft sits on the north-east coast of Suffolk at the northern end of the Suffolk Coast Path. The route follows the seafront through the town before continuing south toward Kessingland and Southwold or north into Norfolk toward Great Yarmouth along the England Coast Path.

The settlement spreads along a long stretch of sandy beach backed by promenades, gardens, and low cliffs. Walking here is largely level, with firm pavements, promenade paths, and compacted sand, making this one of the easiest sections of coastal walking in Suffolk. The terrain is open and exposed, with wide views across the North Sea.

Lowestoft provides shops, cafés, pubs, supermarkets, accommodation, and strong public transport connections including rail and bus services. This makes it a convenient starting or finishing point for longer coastal routes.

From the centre, paths follow the seafront south toward Kessingland and the quieter Suffolk coast or north past Gunton and Corton toward Great Yarmouth, staying close to the shoreline for much of the way.
