Walk the Coast to Coast Path through the Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales section of the Coast to Coast Path follows the trail for 33 miles from Kirkby Stephen to Richmond, crossing into the Yorkshire Dales National Park and continuing through the upland landscapes of North Yorkshire.

From Kirkby Stephen, the route heads east towards the Pennines and climbs towards Nine Standards Rigg. The crossing marks the transition from Cumbria into Yorkshire, with open moorland leading towards Keld at the head of Swaledale.

From Keld, the Coast to Coast continues east through Swaledale. The route passes through a landscape shaped by moorland, valleys, farmland and the remains of the area's former lead-mining industry as it approaches Reeth.

Reeth provides one of the principal stopping points on this section, with the route continuing through lower Swaledale towards Richmond. Villages, fields and riverside landscapes increasingly replace the higher moorland encountered earlier in the section.

The trail reaches Richmond beside the River Swale, where the historic market town marks the end of the Yorkshire Dales section. From here, the Coast to Coast continues east across the Vale of Mowbray towards the North York Moors.

Kirkby Stephen, Keld, Reeth and Richmond provide useful bases along the section, with accommodation available in villages and settlements close to the route.
