Walk the Coast to Coast Path through the North York Moors
The North York Moors section of the Coast to Coast Path follows the trail for 76 miles from Richmond to Robin Hood's Bay, crossing the Vale of Mowbray before continuing through the North York Moors National Park to the North Sea coast.
From Richmond, the route leaves the Yorkshire Dales behind and heads east across the lower countryside of the Vale of Mowbray. Farmland, villages and quiet paths characterise this transitional part of the Coast to Coast as the trail continues towards Ingleby Cross.
Beyond Ingleby Cross, the route climbs onto the western edge of the North York Moors. The landscape changes to open moorland and upland tracks as the trail crosses the national park towards the Cleveland Hills and the higher ground beyond.
The Coast to Coast continues east across the moors through a landscape of heather-covered uplands, valleys and scattered settlements. The route passes through and close to settlements including Great Broughton and Glaisdale, with the crossing of Blakey Ridge forming part of the central moorland stage.
From Glaisdale, the trail continues through Eskdale towards Grosmont and Littlebeck. Woodland, riverside paths and valleys provide a contrast to the open moorland crossed earlier in the section as the route approaches the North Sea.
The final part of the Coast to Coast reaches the coast before turning towards Robin Hood's Bay. The descent into the historic coastal village marks the end of the 187-mile crossing from St Bees and the Irish Sea.
Richmond, Ingleby Cross, Glaisdale, Grosmont and Robin Hood's Bay provide useful bases along the section, with accommodation available in villages and settlements across the Vale of Mowbray, North York Moors and coast.
