Stay in historic Castle Acre
The Ostrich is a historic pub with rooms beside the village green in Castle Acre, at the centre of one of Norfolk's most distinctive historic villages. Its position makes it a useful base for exploring Castle Acre on foot before heading into the surrounding countryside and the Nar Valley.
Castle Acre Priory, the remains of Castle Acre Castle and the village's historic streets can all be explored on foot from the pub. Paths extend beyond the village towards the River Nar and across the surrounding farmland, allowing Castle Acre to work equally well for shorter walks or a few days spent exploring rural Norfolk.
The Peddars Way passes directly through Castle Acre, connecting the village with a much wider walking landscape. The trail approaches through the countryside from the south before continuing north towards Great Massingham, providing opportunities to follow individual sections as part of a walking break as well as to continue along the complete long-distance route.
With historic sites, local paths, riverside landscapes and a National Trail all meeting around the village, The Ostrich provides a base for experiencing Castle Acre as more than a stopping point on the Peddars Way.
