Overstrand, Norfolk – Clifftop Coast on the Norfolk Coast Path
Low cliffs, wide beaches, and open North Sea views between Cromer and Mundesley
Overstrand sits on the Norfolk Coast Path east of Cromer, where the trail returns to the open coastline between Cromer and Mundesley. The village links long shoreline stretches, clifftop ground, and open beaches within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape, with the route following the edge of low cliffs before dropping to the sand at lower tide.
The settlement stands slightly above the sea on soft cliffs and grassy slopes. Underfoot, progress alternates between firm clifftop paths, sandy beach sections, and short slopes connecting the two. The terrain remains straightforward, with steady gradients rather than steep climbs. Views are wide and uninterrupted, looking east and west along the curving coastline and out across the North Sea.
Overstrand retains a quieter, residential feel compared with nearby Cromer. A small promenade, gardens, and a handful of local facilities give it a low-key character, making it a calm stop between busier seaside towns. The beach is broad and open, with rock pools and sand exposed at low tide.
From the village, the Norfolk Coast Path heads west toward Cromer, rejoining promenades and town paths, or east toward Mundesley and Happisburgh, continuing along a mix of cliffs and beach. The terrain remains mostly level with gentle rises and falls, creating a steady and continuous stretch of coast.
