Stay in a historic windmill overlooking Cley Marshes
Cley Windmill is a distinctive coastal guest house occupying a restored windmill beside the old quay in Cley-next-the-Sea, on the Norfolk Coast. Surrounded by reedbeds, saltmarshes and the River Glaven, the windmill offers an unusual place to stay, with views towards Blakeney Point and the North Sea.
Accommodation is arranged within the windmill tower and adjoining former outbuildings, with individually furnished en-suite bedrooms that retain much of the building's historic character. Some rooms enjoy elevated views across the marshes, while others overlook the village, river or walled garden. Guests can relax in the characterful communal rooms, enjoy breakfast in the windmill and explore the surrounding grounds. Self-catering accommodation is also available.
The windmill stands within walking distance of Cley-next-the-Sea, a historic coastal village known for its flint cottages, independent shops and distinctive windmill. The nearby Norfolk Coast Path follows the coastal landscape west towards Blakeney and east towards Salthouse, passing reedbeds, grazing marshes and open views across the coast. Cley Beach, with its broad shingle shoreline, is another rewarding place to explore on foot.
Immediately to the east, Cley Marshes Nature Reserve provides opportunities for birdwatching and exploring one of Norfolk's best-known wetland landscapes. Further along the coast, Blakeney National Nature Reserve encompasses tidal creeks, saltmarshes and the seal colony at Blakeney Point, while inland Holt offers independent shops, galleries and cafés. Together, these places make Cley Windmill a memorable base for discovering the Norfolk Coast National Landscape.
