Stanton, Gloucestershire – Cotswold Way Village on the Edge of the Escarpment
Limestone cottages, open pasture, and escarpment slopes above the Vale
Stanton sits on the western edge of the Cotswolds in north Gloucestershire within the Cotswolds National Landscape, directly on the Cotswold Way. The trail passes through the village before continuing along the escarpment, linking Stanton with Broadway to the north and Winchcombe to the south.
The settlement is centred around a small green and stone-built cottages set on rising ground above the Vale of Evesham. Walking routes leave the village along quiet lanes and field paths before climbing onto open pasture and escarpment slopes. Ground conditions are generally firm, with grassy tracks, farm paths, and short road sections through the village.
Stanton has limited facilities, with accommodation available in and around the village and additional services nearby in Broadway and Winchcombe. This makes it a quieter stopping point between larger settlements along the route.
From the village, the Cotswold Way continues north across open farmland toward Broadway or south along the escarpment toward Winchcombe, with wide views west across the Vale and east toward the Cotswold hills.
