Bawdsey, Suffolk – Estuary Coast on the Suffolk Coast Path
Sea walls, marshland, and open views across the River Deben
Bawdsey sits on the Suffolk coast at the mouth of the River Deben, directly on the Suffolk Coast Path within the Suffolk Coast & Heaths National Landscape. The route follows the estuary sea walls past the village before continuing north toward Shingle Street or south toward Felixstowe Ferry.
The settlement lies on low ground beside tidal marsh and shingle shoreline. Walking here is mostly level, with firm gravel tracks and raised embankments along the river, interspersed with short stretches of beach and open coastal grassland. The landscape is wide and exposed, with long views across the Deben estuary toward Felixstowe.
Bawdsey has limited facilities, with most services located nearby at Felixstowe Ferry or further inland. The village remains quiet and lightly developed compared with larger coastal towns.
From the sea wall, the Suffolk Coast Path continues north along the estuary toward Shingle Street or south toward the Deben crossing and Felixstowe Ferry, following long, straight embankments and shoreline paths.
