Access to the Peddars Way is straightforward by rail, with connections linking the route to Norwich, Cambridge, and London. The route works well with public transport, allowing you to travel to the start and return from the coast without needing a car.

Main Access Point: Thetford

Most journeys to the Peddars Way begin at Thetford, the nearest train station to the southern start of the route at Knettishall Heath.

Thetford is served by Greater Anglia, with direct services connecting:

  • Norwich
  • Cambridge
  • Ely
  • London (via Cambridge)

From the station, Knettishall Heath lies approximately 5–6 miles (8–9 km) away by road.

There is no direct public transport connection between Thetford station and Knettishall Heath.

The nearest rail access point is King’s Lynn.

King’s Lynn is served by Great Northern, with direct services to London King’s Cross and connections across the wider network.

Getting from Holme-next-the-Sea to King’s Lynn

From Holme-next-the-Sea, onward travel to King’s Lynn typically involves:

  • Local bus services along the coast
  • Taxi to the station
  • Walking along the Norfolk Coast Path to nearby villages with transport links

A Car-Free Route

The Peddars Way works well as a point-to-point walk.

You can:

  • Arrive by train at Thetford
  • Travel to Knettishall Heath
  • Walk north to the coast
  • Leave via King’s Lynn

This allows the route to be completed without returning to your starting point.
