Valderejo Natural Park

Limestone canyons, beech forests, and remote landscapes in northern Spain

Deep river gorges, limestone cliffs, ancient woodland, and open mountain slopes create a landscape shaped by water, geology, and centuries of pastoral life. Located in Álava in Northern Spain, Valderejo Natural Park protects one of the most secluded corners of the Basque Country, where wildlife-rich valleys and quiet walking routes pass through landscapes that feel far removed from modern development.

Walking routes link places including Lalastra, Ribera, and the Purón Valley, revealing changing views across limestone canyons, beech forests, open meadows, and rugged ridgelines. Forest paths, riverside trails, mountain tracks, and historic routes create journeys closely connected to the character of the landscape, while griffon vultures circle above the cliffs and wildlife remains a constant presence throughout the park.

Whether exploring the Purón Gorge, following woodland trails beneath limestone escarpments, or walking between traditional villages and viewpoints, Valderejo rewards a slower pace and time spent outdoors. Dramatic scenery, rich biodiversity, and a remarkable sense of tranquillity make it one of northern Spain's most rewarding destinations for self-guided travel.
