Basque Country

Mountains, Coastal Landscapes, Natural Parks, and Historic Routes

From the Atlantic coastline and fishing ports of northern Spain to the mountains, forests, and river valleys of the interior, the Basque Country contains a network of routes, landscapes, and places shaped by geography, culture, and centuries of movement between the coast and inland regions. Routes such as the GR® 38 Wine & Fish Route reveal many of these environments, while landscapes including Valderejo Natural Park, Gorbeia Natural Park, and Urkiola Natural Park showcase some of the region's most distinctive natural settings.

Routes pass through mountain landscapes, forests, vineyards, river valleys, coastal communities, and historic settlements, linking natural parks, cultural landscapes, and some of the Basque Country's most recognisable places. Together, these routes and landscapes reveal the character of the Basque Country while providing opportunities to explore at a slower pace through self-guided travel and independent exploration.
