Stay at the start of the Coast to Coast Walk
Stone House Farm is a family-run bed and breakfast in a Georgian farmhouse in the centre of St Bees, on the Cumbrian coast. The property is close to the village railway station and around a ten-minute walk from St Bees beach, making it particularly convenient for walkers arriving in the village before beginning a longer journey on foot.
St Bees marks the traditional western starting point of the Coast to Coast Path , which begins beside the Irish Sea before heading east across northern England. From the beach, walkers initially follow the coast around St Bees Head before turning inland towards the western fells and valleys of the Lake District. There is also plenty to explore around St Bees itself. Local paths lead towards St Bees Head, whose cliffs rise above the coast between St Bees and Whitehaven and support northwest England's only cliff-nesting seabird colony. Further inland, St Bees provides access to the quieter western side of the Lake District, including Ennerdale and Wasdale. This makes Stone House Farm useful both as an overnight stop before setting out on the Coast to Coast and as a base for exploring the wider landscapes of western Cumbria.
