Stay on the GR5 in the Ubaye Valley
Chalet Maljasset is located in Maljasset, a small mountain settlement at the head of the Ubaye Valley in the southern French Alps. Surrounded by high peaks, open pasture and mountain valleys, it provides a well-placed base for walkers travelling through this remote part of the Alps.
The GR5 passes through Maljasset as it crosses the upper Ubaye, making the chalet a natural overnight stop for walkers following the long-distance route. From the settlement, mountain paths continue through increasingly high terrain towards passes connecting the Ubaye with neighbouring Alpine valleys.
Maljasset also provides access to a wider network of walking routes beyond the GR5. Trails lead into the surrounding valleys and high mountain landscapes, with routes ranging from walks through alpine pasture to longer days involving sustained climbs, mountain passes and more exposed terrain.
Its position at the upper end of the valley gives Maljasset a distinctly remote character. For walkers staying at the chalet, the surrounding trails provide an opportunity to spend longer exploring the high Ubaye rather than simply passing through as part of a longer journey.
