Chalet de Maljasset du Club Alpin Français
Located in the remote hamlet of Maljasset, near the source of the Ubaye River, Chalet Maljasset is a Club Alpin Français (FFCAM) mountain chalet positioned directly on major long-distance walking routes in the southern French Alps. Sitting at around 1,900 metres, it supports multi-day journeys through exposed high-mountain terrain where distance, weather, and altitude shape travel.
The chalet functions as a working Alpine accommodation, providing shelter and rest for walkers moving between high passes and remote basins rather than a destination stay in its own right. It plays an important role for those tackling the GR5, Via Alpina, and Tour de l’Ubaye, helping make sustained, self-guided journeys through the Haute Ubaye possible.
Accommodation is simple, communal, and purposeful, reflecting the chalet’s role as part of the route rather than an end point. Access is typically on foot, and stays here suit experienced walkers who understand the rhythms and demands of high-mountain travel.
