Lapuebla de Labarca, Rioja Alavesa – Riverside Village near the GR® 38 Route

Lapuebla de Labarca sits on the north bank of the River Ebro in Rioja Alavesa, close to the GR® 38 Route between Oyón-Oion and Laguardia. Here, vineyard landscapes meet the broad river corridor that has shaped movement and settlement between the Basque interior and La Rioja for centuries.

The village is arranged around narrow streets and traditional stone buildings near the riverbank, with vineyards stretching across the surrounding low hills. The Ebro forms a defining presence, creating open views along the valley while irrigated farmland and vine rows shape the agricultural landscape.

Walking in and around Lapuebla de Labarca is gentle and expansive. Quiet rural lanes, vineyard tracks, and riverside paths provide easy exploration of the Ebro valley before the terrain begins to rise toward Laguardia and the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains.

Although the GR® 38 Route does not pass directly through the village, Lapuebla de Labarca lies close to the corridor between Oyón-Oion and Laguardia and can be visited with a short detour. Its riverside setting and proximity to the main route make it a quieter alternative base within Rioja Alavesa.

The village offers places to eat and drink, small shops, and accommodation, making it a practical stop for exploring the surrounding wine region and nearby stages of the route.

Beyond the Ebro valley, the GR® 38 continues north through vineyards toward Laguardia before climbing gradually toward the Sierra de Toloño and the upland landscapes beyond.
