Covehithe, Suffolk – Coastal Hamlet on the Suffolk Coast Path
Low Cliffs, Heathland, and Open North Sea Shoreline
Covehithe is a small coastal hamlet on the Suffolk Coast Path within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Landscape between Southwold and Benacre. Here the route follows low cliffs, heathland, and open shoreline, where the coastline is more open and lightly developed between settlements.
The hamlet is loosely arranged around a church and scattered houses inland from the cliff edge, with footpaths leading across fields and heath toward the coast. The path drops to the beach before continuing along sand and shingle, creating a transition between higher ground and the shoreline below.
Covehithe has very limited services for walkers. There are no shops or facilities in the hamlet, with services and accommodation available in nearby Southwold and Kessingland. This section functions primarily as a passing stretch rather than a stopping point.
Beyond Covehithe, the Suffolk Coast Path continues south toward Southwold across dunes and marshland or north toward Benacre and Kessingland along low cliffs and open beach. The terrain remains mostly level, with firm coastal paths and long views across the North Sea.
