Stay between the Mourne Mountains and the coast
Mourne Country House is a family-run B&B in the countryside near Kilkeel, surrounded by the landscapes of the Mourne Mountains National Landscape. Its rural position provides views towards the Mournes, the Cooley Mountains and the Irish Sea, creating a base for exploring both the mountains and the coast of southern County Down.
The Mournes provide the main walking landscape, with paths ranging from lower-level routes through valleys and countryside to longer days among the mountains. From this southern side of the range, a stay can combine quieter local walking with excursions deeper into the Mournes.
Silent Valley Reservoir lies nearby, surrounded by mountain slopes in the interior of the range. Walking around the valley provides a different perspective on the Mournes, combining reservoir landscapes, mountain scenery and access to paths leading further into the surrounding hills.
The coast adds another dimension to a stay here. Kilkeel and its harbour are a short distance away, while Cranfield Beach lies further south towards the entrance to Carlingford Lough. Together, the mountains, rural countryside and coast make Mourne Country House particularly well placed for a walking break exploring southern County Down.
