Felixstowe, Suffolk – Seafront and Estuary Coast on the Suffolk Coast Path
Promenade paths, open beaches, and wide coastal views at the edge of the Deben estuary
Felixstowe sits on the Suffolk Coast Path along the open North Sea coast, just south of the mouth of the River Deben at Felixstowe Ferry. The trail passes directly along the town’s promenade and shoreline before continuing north toward the estuary and south toward Landguard Point. Parts of the surrounding coast fall within the Suffolk Coast & Heaths National Landscape.
The settlement stands above a long sweep of sand and shingle. Underfoot, progress is easy and firm, following paved seafront paths, seawalls, and coastal tracks, with occasional stretches of beach and grass. Views are broad and open, looking north toward the Deben entrance and Bawdsey and south across the open sea and harbour approaches.
Felixstowe blends traditional seaside character with everyday convenience. Cafés, shops, accommodation, and public transport make it one of the most practical bases on this stretch of coast, while quieter ground can still be found along the estuary edge and beyond the main promenade.
From the town centre, the Suffolk Coast Path heads north toward Felixstowe Ferry and Bawdsey, following the Deben shoreline along quieter embankments and marsh-side paths, or south past Landguard Point, where the coast curves into the Orwell estuary beside the docks and harbour. The terrain remains largely flat in both directions, making this section steady and accessible.
