Bushmills, County Antrim – River Village Near the Giant’s Causeway
River Valley Setting, Coastal Access, and the Inland Edge of the Causeway Coast
Bushmills is a village in County Antrim on the River Bush near the north coast, set within the Causeway Coast National Landscape (AONB). It lies just inland from the shoreline between Portballintrae and the Giant’s Causeway.
The settlement follows the river valley, with streets and small bridges clustered around the village centre. The surrounding ground is low and agricultural compared with the nearby cliffs and headlands, with the coast reached quickly by road and path toward Portballintrae and the shore.
Bushmills sits close to the Giant’s Causeway and Causeway Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site, located on the coast a short distance north of the village. The River Bush continues through the valley to the sea at Portballintrae.
The Causeway Coast Way follows the shoreline between Portstewart and Ballycastle, passing nearby via Portballintrae, Runkerry Beach, and the Giant’s Causeway. Terrain along the coast is defined by beaches, dunes, clifftops, and open headlands.
